Rio Rancho now has its own full-service hospital.
Presbyterian Rust Medical Center had its grand opening on Saturday.
Hundreds came out to tour the new Rio Rancho facility and take part in the big event.
CEO Jim Hinton called the event, "A dream come true for this community."
Presbyterian Rust Medical Center opened its doors in style with a big party, even a flash mob.
Kids came for the candy, the rock climbing, a bouncy slide and face painting.
Adults say they came to celebrate a milestone.
"I think it means everything just to have a full fledged hospital out here in the community," said Monica Becerra.
Others are excited they can see a doctor close by.
"Ah, you don't have to travel so far to get healthcare," said Christy Olloway.
Hinton said the new facility comes fully equipped with state of the art technology and 68 private patient rooms. He said there's even room to grow.
"We have master planned this site to where someday this hospital could be over 500 beds."
Hinton says it took about 5 years of planning.
U.S. Congressman Ben Ray Lujan (D-NM) said it's more than just a hospital.
"It's about looking after a community. It's about keeping our moms and dads, our grandma and grandpas, our brother and sisters, and our friends and neighbors healthy and strong,? he said.
Although Saturday was the official grand opening, the hospital actually performed its first surgery Monday.
