Halloween can be a lot of things to a lot of people, but for pedophile sex offenders, it's a dream come true. Local cops in Albuquerque are determined to keep the dream from becoming reality.
Think about it - Halloween is pedophile heaven. The kids come right to your door asking for candy. You don't have to go looking for them. Like shooting fish in a barrel, right? Wrong!
Bernalillo County deputies are out in force checking on registeredsex offenders, especially child molesters, with a friendly reminder ? you are out of the Halloween business! No tricks, no treats, nobody home at your house, no contact with kids.
"It could be something where we've identified some that need some oversight," said Sheriff's Lt. David Knowles. "We'll have somebody in a uniform in a marked patrol car or we'll have a detective parked right in front of the house. What we encourage people to do is do some research."
Knowles said parents can go to the state sex offender registry to see if any of them live in their kid's trick or treat territory. The Sheriff has a sex offender hotline at 841-9551.
Deputies say parents should try to keep an eye on their trick or treaters, if possible, and always tell kids to never go into somebody's house, unless they are friends or family.
