An Albuquerque firefighter who also is the fire union?s Chief Steward is under investigation on suspicion of criminal sexual penetration.
KOB Eyewitness News 4 was first to report that a 44-year-old woman told police that she had a few alcoholic drinks then fell asleep.
She claims Lt. Robert Lujan, a firefighter since 1997, sexually penetrated her with objects from a child's game while she slept.
A police incident report states that the woman complained of abdominal pain. She told police she went to the doctor where the objects were removed and discovered she also had an infection.
AFD Chief James Breen told KOB that he placed Lujan on administrative assignment working in the fire supply room immediately after learning of the police investigation.
?The fire department is doing its due diligence in removing Lujan from providing emergency services and having direct contact with the public,? Breen said.
But Breen and City of Albuquerque Chief Administrative Officer Rob Perry said they want Lujan to be removed from his position in the fire union IAFF Local 244 until the criminal investigation is completed.
?The City?s concern is that Lt. Lujan represents the entirety of the union and that he is the face of the Albuquerque Fire Department,? Perry said.
As Chief Steward, Perry and Breen said that Lujan continues to represent union members during disciplinary procedures and carries all of the responsibilities of that position, despite the allegations.
Local IAFF 244 President Diego Arencon told KOB that Lt. Lujan is entitled to due process like any other fire employee.
Ryan Villa, an attorney representing Lujan issued this statement: ?Based upon our investigation of the case, we believe these allegations are completely baseless. The allegations were made to the police over 14 months after the incident supposedly occurred. We look forward to being able to present all of the facts and circumstances surrounding this case and being able to show that (Lujan) is completely innocent of these charges."
