9:15 p.m. update: Police have still not made contact with the woman inside the residence according to APD Sgt. Pat Ficke. He said Wyoming remains closed and could be for several more hours. He said police are still concerned about the woman?s well-being and are proceeding with caution because of her history with?mental health issues.?
5:40pm update: APD Sgt. Pat Ficke tells ABQJournal.com that police believe the woman who briefly held her grandson hostage in a home near Wyoming and Menaul NE is now inside the residence alone.
APD crisis negotiators are trying to speak with the woman now, as dozens of police vehicles? including mobile and post? are lining the northbound lanes of Wyoming just north of Menaul.
Ficke says the woman, who he described as having?mental health issues,? was threatening to?kill everyone in the house? a few hours ago.
A social worker who had been working with the woman?s mother arrived at the home to try to calm the situation down, Ficke said. The woman threatened her mother and the social worker with a gun, then took her grandson hostage.
The woman?s mother and the social worker were able to get out of the house, Ficke said. A short time later, the boy came out.
As he did, Ficke said, officers heard four gunshots.
?As of now, our priority is getting her to come out safely,? he said.?We believe she is the only one in the residence.?
