Carlsbad attorney accused of stealing client money - San Jose Mercury News

CARLSBAD, Calif.?Prosecutors say Carlsbad attorney Patricia Gregory has been charged with stealing more than $100,000 from clients and practicing law without a license.

Charges were filed Thursday, two weeks after the San Diego Union-Tribune ( http://bit.ly/rfHMLW) included Gregory in a story about lawyers whose cases in State Bar Court fail to result in criminal prosecution.

Gregory is charged with five counts of fraud, five counts of grand theft and one count of unauthorized practice of law. She faces up to four years in state prison on each count and a $10,000 fine. She is due in court on Oct. 18.

She told the Union-Tribune there were inaccuracies in the criminal complaint and she was entitled to all the money she withdrew for legal fees.
