WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Stephanie Madoff-Mack, the former daughter-in-law of the man behind the worst Ponzi scheme in American history, said in an exclusive interview on ABC's "20/20" that she'd spit on Bernie Madoff if she saw him today."I hate Bernie Madoff," she told ABC's Chris Cuomo in the interview that aired Friday night. "If I saw Bernie Madoff right now, I would tell him that I hold him fully responsible for killing my husband, and I'd spit in his face."Madoff-Mack's husband, Mark Madoff, hanged himself last December on the two-year anniversary of his father's arrest.Madoff-Mack writes about the fall of the Madoff family in her new book, "The End Of Normal: A Wife's Anguish, A Widow's New Life," and Friday's interview was the first with any family member since the scandal that saw more than 10,000 investors lose $65 billion. In December 2008, Mark confronted his father about his business, Madoff-Mack told Cuomo."He marched into his father's office and said, 'What the (pause) is going on here?'" Madoff-Mack said in Friday's interview. "And Bernie said that his business was just one big lie and that he was billions in debt."Mark and his brother, Andy, turned their father in that day.Once details of the scam spilled out, Mark became a target of the media coverage and public outcry, an unjustified consequence in his wife's eyes."My husband knew nothing," Madoff-Mack told ABC. "He was in pure shock. You could see the betrayal in his face and his body."Madoff-Mack also said in the interview that Mark Madoff eventually gave his mother, Ruth Madoff, an ultimatum: Cut Bernie off immediately or lose the rest of the family. She chose to stand by her husband's side, a huge blow to an already anxious Mark, Madoff-Mack said."(Mark) couldn't understand how she could continuously stand by this man who ruined so many lives," Madoff-Mack said.
